An AFI THESIS FILM
The Face is a satirist tragedy about the world of indie wrestling. At the film’s center is The American, an over the hill wrestler who is told by the league’s Promoter that he will be throwing the title fight to an up and coming rookie, The Kid. The film unfolds into a pressure cooker behind the curtain of this indie league, as the American spirals while attempting to cling to his championship belt.
But as the match draws nearer and nearer, the American must confront his past, present and future as he questions what it is he is actually fighting to preserve - the integrity of his beloved league, or his own inflated sense of self.
